Soweto Green is a refreshing, breakthrough comedy with "impolite" moments and generous heart that brings together unexpectedly an unlikely group of people in new South Africa: a hopeful returned exile, a culture shocked African American wife, a liberal Afrikaner and his beautiful Black lover all return home to new beginnings. Shooting from the hip, this entertaining story takes the lid off buzz words like freedom and democracy, and through a host of predicatable misunderstandings and achingly funny misdemeanors brings about a genuine insight into the process of cultures colliding and ultimately learning to love and live together. But, first there are some bad habits to shake from the rocked of the old South Africa - and the journev is full of bumpy terrain!
After almost a lifetime of exile in New York, amiable Curtis Tshabalala is now on his way home warmed by memories of the quiet beauty of that great big oak tree of his childhood. With his wife Cora, and a B.A. degree in environmental affairs Curtis dreams of planting trees in the new South Africa. Greening Soweto will be his contribution to reconciliation Cora, who is accustomed to the sophisticated urban "jungle" of Los Angeles, is unsure of the future that awaits her.
